NetSuite Next Summary: Maximizing Your Platform’s Full Potential

NetSuite Next Summary
NetSuite Next Summary

What It Is

NetSuite Next is the next generation of NetSuite, announced at SuiteWorld on October 7, 2025, and expanded at SuiteConnect 2026. It is widely described as Oracle’s most significant NetSuite overhaul since the platform’s founding. Rather than a new product to migrate to, it is a re-architecture of the existing platform around embedded AI — adding conversational AI and agentic workflows across the suite.

NetSuite Next is Oracle’s vision for the next generation of ERP, where AI becomes the primary way users interact with NetSuite. Instead of navigating menus, running saved searches, and manually creating reports, you can ask questions or instruct the system in natural language. It is built into NetSuite, not a separate application.

A defining characteristic is that customers can switch to NetSuite Next at the press of a button, without migrating or disrupting existing customizations. It runs on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), is grounded in the customer’s own data and existing controls, and combines a unified data model with explainable, auditable AI and the modern Redwood Design System.

Core Features (the Pillars)

  • Redwood Design System (new UI): a modern interface with smart filters and search, infinite scrolling, and a cleaner, consistent layout. Practical changes include a sticky header with always-available navigation and “Create New,” collapsible field sections on long forms, and filters moved to the top of list pages.
  • Ask Oracle (the centerpiece): a natural language assistant that lets users search, navigate, analyze, and act across the entire NetSuite dataset in plain language, returning context-aware answers, visualizations, and reasoning that explains the “how” and “why” behind each response. It also works across customizations and SuiteCloud Developer Network partner apps.
  • AI Canvas: a collaborative surface for scenario planning and analysis.
  • Agentic workflows: AI that takes action, not just answers — automating complex tasks such as payment proposals, vendor selection, reconciliations, and supply-chain operations, with the choice to approve key decisions or let agents act autonomously. A flagship example is autonomous financial close, which Oracle has suggested could shrink close cycles to a few days.
  • Knowledge / Document Integration: large language models extract and validate information from invoices, contracts, receipts, PDFs, and policy manuals, turning static documents into actionable workflows (for example, auto-generating an expense report from uploaded receipts).
  • Reimagined SuiteCloud for AI: developers can build agents with new SuiteAgent frameworks, and the AI Connector Service uses open standards such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to securely connect external models — explicitly including ChatGPT and Claude — to NetSuite data.
  • Natural Language Analytics: Instead of building reports manually, you can ask:
  • “Show revenue by subsidiary for the last quarter.”
  • “Compare this month with last month.”
  • “Which customers generated the highest profit?”
  • The AI builds the analysis automatically.
  • Governance built in: every agent operates within the same roles, permissions, and approval flows that already govern the business, with source citations and auditable explanations. Agents cannot do anything a user in that role could not do manually.
  • NetSuite Subscription Metrics: for SaaS companies, real-time revenue, retention, and growth insight for CFOs and CROs, available at no additional cost.

How It Differs from Classic NetSuite and Fusion

The comparison is best understood as an evolution of NetSuite (Next) versus a separate Oracle product (Fusion):

Key point on Fusion: NetSuite Next modernizes NetSuite but does not reposition it into Fusion’s tier. NetSuite (including Next) remains Oracle’s cloud ERP for SMB-to-mid-market and multi-entity businesses, while Fusion remains the flagship for large, complex, global enterprises. What is converging is the look-and-feel and AI approach — both now share Oracle’s Redwood design and OCI/AI foundation — but they remain distinct products for distinct segments.

Who It Is Suitable For

  • Existing NetSuite customers first: the ~43,000 companies already on NetSuite are the primary audience and receive it automatically over the phased rollout.
  • The same segment NetSuite has always served: growing SMBs, mid-market, and multi-entity businesses wanting integrated cloud ERP with low IT overhead — now with a lower learning curve, since users can query data in plain language rather than mastering saved-search syntax.
  • Finance-heavy organizations seeking faster, AI-assisted period close and reconciliation.
  • SaaS companies, via NetSuite Subscription Metrics.
  • Industry-specific operators, as Oracle layers vertical solutions on top (for example, NetSuite Restaurant Operations).

Considerations / Caveats

  • Timing: rollout is phased through 2026, North America first; as of mid-2026 many agentic features are in preview or phased rollout, with broader access expected into 2027. Oracle’s forward-looking-statements disclaimer applies to unreleased capabilities.
  • Data quality is a prerequisite: Ask Oracle and the agents are only as good as the underlying master data; inconsistent vendor names or sparse history degrade outputs (Exception Management, for example, trains on roughly 18 months of transaction data).

Developer / customization impact: SuiteScript 2.x is fully supported and server-side scripts (User Event, Suitelet) are generally unaffected, but client scripts or custom CSS tied to the old DOM structure or CSS classes may break under Redwood and should be reviewed.

How to Use NetSuite Next Features

Feature

What It Does & How It Works

Practical Next Steps & Best Practices

Redwood UI

A completely redesigned user interface that changes how dashboards render and moves list-page filters to the top. It features smart filters, infinite scrolling, and sticky headers.

Toggle it on under Home > Set Preferences. Test your most-used dashboards and saved searches first. Traditional navigation is still available as a fallback.

Ask Oracle

A natural-language assistant in the navigation bar. You type or speak questions in plain language to get context-aware answers, charts, and data reasoning. It is role-aware, showing different insights to a CFO versus a warehouse manager.

No setup required. Once available in your account, access it from the top navigation bar. You can refine your data results by asking natural follow-up questions.

Agentic Workflows

Autonomous AI agents that execute complex, multi-step tasks like payment proposals, vendor selection, reconciliations, and automated financial closes.

Launch from Ask Oracle or let them run proactively in the background. Always pilot these workflows in a sandbox with realistic data and define your approval thresholds before going live.

AI Canvas

A collaborative, shared workspace where teams can run scenario planning, view summaries, compare financial models, and analyze charts together.

Share directly with finance, operations, or executives so your entire leadership team works out of the exact same data context.

Knowledge Integration

An LLM-driven tool that extracts and validates information from uploaded documents like contracts, receipts, policies, and PDFs.

Upload static documents directly to feed actionable system workflows, such as auto-drafting an expense report straight from an uploaded receipt image.

External AI & Dev Extensibility

Uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to securely connect external models (like ChatGPT and Claude) to NetSuite data. Includes the new SuiteAgent framework for custom builds.

Consult your developers. Prepare your team to build custom agents using the SuiteAgent framework and watch for MCP Apps in the next upcoming SuiteApp release.

Is Training Available?

Yes, in several layers though Oracle positions NetSuite Next end-user adoption as low-training by design. What exists:

  • NetSuite Education Services / Learning Cloud Support (LCS): Oracle’s official platform, with self-paced learning paths organized by role (administrator, developer, financial user, and others). The LCS Company Pass is a subscription for continuous learning, with personalized plans and education advice. If a company pays for NetSuite, LCS access is often already included in the support package.
  • Learning Labs: free, half-day training events run by the NetSuite Education Services team, with live demos and access to product and support experts.
  • Oracle MyLearn / Oracle University: cloud training courses and certification paths.
  • Partner enablement: training for professionals who sell, implement, and advise on NetSuite, built by the same teams that train internal NetSuite employees — the track for keeping our own consultants current as new features release.
  • Community & AI-specific help: the NetSuite community is adding “Ask a Guru – Ask Oracle” categories to help users formulate queries, and Oracle plans AI-adoption services such as certification programs and cookbooks as it onboards customers.

Hands-on practice: most accounts include a sandbox, which is the real way people build fluency.
