Sage 100 Customizer Scripting

Sage 100 Customizer Scripting

Sage 100 is an excellent ERP platform. However, as customers use the system, they realize that they need to store additional data or implement additional rules that are based on their business. At MyERPPartner, we have experienced consultants who can help you navigate through the customization or scripting process to achieve the results you need.

So, what does this customization process look like? In this post, I will cover the background, the research and the process involved at MyERPParter to customize your system.

Why customize?

Most customers realize that Sage 100 is a great platform but does not necessarily capture all the data that their business generates or the rules that the business follows. Customizing the screens and the associated rules in the system can result in a more robust business process. We see a few reasons customers like to make changes to their system

  • Business specific data fields
  • Business specific rules
  • Automation or Integration needs
  • Compliance or performance needs
  • Reporting needs

Customers may need data that is specific to the process. For e.g. a sales person may want to know the date a quote was generated or that they have sufficient deposit for a sales order that complies with business policies. The default system screens do not have the fields needed or the additional, business specific rules that warn the sales person that the deposit being collected is insufficient.

Another example, a customer wants to have a setting on the vendor screen that stores information if that vendor allows electronic purchase orders and if so, what system does the purchase order need to be routed to. Such information stored with vendor data can be used during purchase order creation to route the PO to the correct third party system.

In yet another example, a business may want to implement a highly customized purchase order routing process where the purchase order created cannot be issued and needs approval by a manager that has the ability to release the purchase order based on a specific set of rules that apply.

In each of these examples, customers may need the system to behave in a way that is specific to their company.

Is customization expensive?

At MyERPPartner, customization projects are taken with a clear view of ROI. Customers that undertake this journey with us do so with full knowledge of why they are customizing the system and what they will achieve. There are a few common reasons why customization projects are undertaken

  • Reduce or Eliminate manual data entry
  • Better automation
  • Better compliance

Each engagement has a clear goal. If the goal is to reduce manual labor, the calculating ROI is easy to predict and payback period clearly defined. If customization is being undertaken because of a mandatory requirement, then the return on the project cannot be calculated in payback period or return but instead a defined metric such as error rate or number of widgets being produced.

Will customization lead to difficult upgrades?

At MyERPPartner, we routinely undertake system customization. Building an ERP system that works well and is accepted by users reduces frustration and increases productivity. Each project we undertake comes with an expectation that the system will be eventually upgraded to maintain stability and compliance. As such, we ensure that all customizations come with clear definitions and documentation that lead to a predictable system upgrade process.

As a certified Sage 100 implementation partner, we take care of all aspects of the Sage 100 environment. Rest assured, upgrading the system is easy and done in a predictable manner.
